(1864-1900) Джонс, КейсиГерой американского песенного фольклора, легендарный машинист железной дороги "Иллинойс сентрал" [Illinois Central]. Стал известен благодаря обстоятельствам своей гибели (хотя и не подтвержденным документально). 29 апреля 1900 привел поезд "Кэннонболл экспресс" [ Cannonball Express] на станцию Мемфис, шт. Теннесси, и, по наиболее распространенной версии, вызвался вести его дальше вместо заболевшего сменщика. Пытаясь нагнать упущенное время, увеличил скорость. Заметив стоящий на путях товарный состав, он приказал помощнику прыгать, а сам, пытаясь тормозить, погиб при столкновении. Песня "Кейси Джонс" ["Casey Jones"], написанная его другом У. Содерсом [Sauders, Wallace], приобрела широкую известность в стране, а его имя стало символом отваги и героизма. Однако по другой версии, распространенной в профсоюзной среде и описанной рабочим поэтом Джо Хиллом [ Hill, Joe] в его балладе "Кейси Джонс - штрейкбрехер" ["Casey Jones - the Union Scab"], железнодорожник заменил не заболевшего сменщика, а бастующего машиниста.
